Sunbeam College for Women, located in Bhagwanpur, Varanasi, is a distinguished Post Graduate College with an esteemed NAAC Grade "A" accreditation. Established in 2000, the college is affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth in Varanasi. Its foundation was laid to fulfill the crucial need for an English medium college exclusively for girls in the region. The college's strategic location, merely 7.5 km from Varanasi Cantt. Station, offers convenience to its students. The institution is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment that stimulates creativity and intellectual growth among its students while also fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of India's rich cultural heritage. With a focus on academic excellence, intellectual development, and cultural enrichment, Sunbeam College for Women instills the values of fortitude, justice, and benevolence in its students. The faculty at Sunbeam College for Women is highly qualified and driven, with a strong commitment to teaching and research. The college upholds traditional values and actively organizes various cultural activities to preserve and promote the cultural ethos and values. Students are encouraged to participate in educational, recreational, and extracurricular endeavors such as quizzes, debates, extempore speaking, public speaking, and sports. These activities are thoughtfully designed to enhance their skills and provide valuable experience in event organization. The college ensures ample opportunities for student participation in such events, as well as in the NCC and NSS units, fostering discipline and patriotism.
Sunbeam College for Women takes pride in its outstanding academic track record, achieving a 100% pass rate in University exams every year, with its students frequently ranking in the University Top Ten list. In the current year, three college students were awarded Gold Medals in the university examination. The college prepares students for prestigious exams such as CAT, MAT, and IIT JAM, with notable success. This year, Divyanshi Singh and Shikha Mishra qualified GATE with scores of 292 and 430, respectively. Riya Dhanuka secured a remarkable 99.8 percentile in XAT. Additionally, it is noteworthy that Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh, India’s first women fighter pilot to fly the Rafale fighter jet, is an alumna of the college, having graduated in B.Sc. in the 2015-16 academic year while also being an active NCC cadet.
Mrs. Deesh Ishrat Madhok was born on 10th September 1933 in Sialkot, had her preliminary education from Loreto Academy, Lahore that shaped her modern outlook towards education. In 1954, she met Dr. Amrit Lal Ishrat; a Persian scholar and got married to him on the 25th of May. She accompanied him to Iran and this is where the academician in her got a chance to prove her mettle. In 1963, they returned to Varanasi, a city, which since time immemorial has been a traditional seat of learning. In 1972, she started the Sunbeam School. The school intended to provide the students the best of the missionary school educational delivery system and that of the traditional schools prevalent during those days. The story after that is phenomenal. From 40 students in 1972, Sunbeam today has come a long way to the largest educational conglomerate in eastern U. P. with more than 11,000 students on roll. Mrs. Deesh Ishrat Madhok passed away on June 2003 but her legacy lives on in the temples of learning that she conceptualized and in the smiles and satisfaction of thousands of students who have found an anchor in their quest of knowledge exploration in Sunbeam, all thanks to her resolve and vision. She was indeed the lady who lit the lamp of modern education which illuminates Eastern UP today.
Dr. Amrit Lal Ishrat Madhok was born on 2nd November, 1930, in Lahore. He pursued Master degree in Persian. Later on, he also pursued Master degree in History; Urdu, as well. He was awarded a scholarship by the Govt. He remained in Iran from 1961 to 1963, where he earned a D.Lit degree from Tehran University for his research work titled Shr-e-Farsee-Dar Hind. In 1972, he was awarded a Ph.D. degree by the Banaras Hindu University, for his research work titled Urdu Shaeyri Aur Punjabi. He served as a Prof. of Persian in Banaras Hindu University Dept. of Persian language. Thereafter he remained a continuous source of inspiration and the main driving force, behind the setting up of the Sunbeam Group of Educational Institutions. It is due to his patronism, coupled with hard work and devotion, that this Institution has reached the pinnacle of glory and has set a tradition throughout Uttar Pradesh.
